Remove the layer mask without applying the changes
|

 |
Place two images on different layers of a Photoshop document. Switch to the top layer and create a layer mask. Paint an area of arbitrary shape on the mask. Delete the layer mask dragging it to the Trash button at the bottom of the Layers palette. Click Discard in the next dialog.
