Microsoft WordArt is used to create WordArt text. It is possible to add shadow, bend, rotate, stretch the text, provide vertical orientation, make it wavy etc.
To create WordArt text, tab Insert WordArt on the Drawing toolbar. There is also special WordArt toolbar (see pic.4) considered below. As WordArt text is a graphic object, the drawing toolbar can be used for its modification. The separate WordArt toolbar replaced the WordArt application that used to be supplied together with previous versions of Microsoft products: Office, Works, Publisher 95 etc.
WordArt text is a graphic object not text. It is impossible to check the spelling here. To show or hide the WordArt toolbar, choose View|Toolbars|WordArt (see pic.4).
The functions of WordArt toolbar are described in Table 2.

Here is the common scheme of developing a WordArt object. Click Insert WordArt to bring up the WordArt Gallery window (see pic.6), choose one of the styles. Rejecting all the styles means rejecting the WordArt object. If no art is required for the text, choose the first style in top left corner of the window. It represents ordinary horisontal text with no special effects.
Pic.5. Format WordArt Dialog
Pic.6. Select a WordArt Style
Right after the style is defined, another gialog apeares. Here you are to type in the text. By default it containes the words Our Text Here. Keep this text, as it can be changed later, or write your own one. Then click OK. Clicking Cancel means rejecting the WordArt object. This dialog also allows the simplest text formatting (font, size, bold, italic).
Close the text edit window. WordArt text is now displayed on the screen and all the WordArt tools are available.
Format WordArt dialog, brought up by clicking Format WordArt, is very important for WordArt object modification. This window contains six tabs to ensure many-sided formatting (see pic.5).
Some other tools of WordArt toolbar repeat the items in format window. For example, see Text Wrapping on WordArt toolbar and Layout in Format WordArt dialog. Like any other graphics, WordArt object can be wrapped by text in different ways or just go through it.
