Color formats. The Color tool allows setting color format for the picture selected.You may choose one of the four:
- Automatic automatically sets the image format keeping the original colors;
- Grayscale converts the image to black-and-white replacing every color by a particular shade of gray;
- Black&White converts the picture to a merely black-and-while image. This format is often used for lines selection;
- Washout converts the picture to a light-colored, soft image that can be used as a background.
Working with graphics, keep in mind that images can be placed in different graphic layers. By superposition, a top layer image covers a bottom layer one. To change order of the pictures, use Draw|Order. The items of this menu (see pic.1) are listed below.
- Bring to Front brings the layer of the selected object on top.
- Send to Back moves the layer of the selected object to the bottom.
- Bring Forward allows moving the object one level up (switches the places of two adjacent layers).
- Send Backward moves the layer of the selected object one level down.
- Bring in Front of Text places the object over text in case of superposition.
- Send behind Text places the object under text in case of superposition.
Pic.1. Changing object order in the picture
Sometimes a new object completely covers one or more of previously created images.This causes a problem if the order of underlying objects must be changed, for example, the bottom object brought to front. Such an object can not be selected by clicking over it, as it can't be seen behind the other figures. In this case, the Tab key is helpful. Select any object, then keep pressing Tab, and all objects in the picture will be selected in turn. Having selected the right object in this way, you can apply any instruction from the Draw menu.
Alternate object selection with Tab corresponds to the order of their creation. To select objects in reverce order, press Shift+Tab.
A Washout image is automaticaly placed to the bottom layer and made soft and light-colored. Nevertheless, a Washout image is completely equal in rights with other pictures. Any other image can be freely placed on a graphic layer located under the washout. It will not change the color, but will cover the image under itself.
To make the washout repeat in the whole document, include it into the header. Using washout format, pay attantion to the text wrapping. The picture must not be wrapped by text.
Text Wrapping. There are several types of text and graphics layout. It can be set from Format|Picture|Layout or directly with the help of Text Wrapping item on Picture toolbar. It includes the following sub-items(see pic.2):
- Square - text wrapping around the square object border ;
- Tight - text wrapping along the object perimeter;
- Behind Text - selected object is located behind the text;
- In Front of Text - selected object is located over the text;
- Top and Bottom - object is places between two lines of the text;
- Through - text wrapping along the object perimeter and inside the object.
Picture toolbar includes special Edit Wrap Points instruction that allows changing the text wrapping edge. It shows a knot contour around the picture. Drag the wrap points to edit the text wrapping contour. (see pic.3).
