Equation toolbar and its templates
weiter

Equation Editor is a separate application launched from Word. To have equation editor included to Word, check the corresponding option when installing Microsoft Office2000 on your computer.
To insert an equation choose the Inset|Object menu item, then tab Create new in the dialog. An equation is created after you select Microsoft Equation 3.0 from the Object type list.
The top line of the equation toolbar contains buttons to add over 150 available mathematical symbols, most of them are inactive for standard Symbol font. To insert a symbol, click over the needed top line botton and select the right symbol from the drop-down palette (see pic.1).
The bottom line of the toolbar contains buttons intended to insert templates. They include fractions, radicals, sums, integrals, products, matrices etc., also paired symbols like round and square brackets. Many of the templates have a special area marked with dotted box, here text and symbols can be entered. Equation Editor includes over 120 templates qrouped in palettes. Templates can be inserted into one-another for multi-stage equations.
While a pelette is being used, the furmula cannot be edited from the keyboard. To close a palette staying in the equation editor, click over the blank area on the toolbar or press Enter (or Alt). Then you can edit the equation. On the other hand, the Esc key only closes the palette but does not allow entering symbols from the keyboard.

Sections of the equation toolbar
Section
Brief description
Adds relational symbols
Allows adding spaces and ellipses.
Is used to insert diacritical marks
Is used to enter vaious mathematical operators
Allows adding different kinds of arrows
Is used to add logical symbols
Allows adding symbols of the set theory
Contains various symbols (infinity, perpendicularity etc.)
Allows adding small Greek letters
Is used to enter capital Greek letters
Contains fence templates
Is used to add fraction and radical templates
Is used to enter subscript and superscript templates
Includes various summation templates (allows defining the summation variable)
Allows adding intergral templates of any kind
Is used to insert underbar and overbar templates
Contains labeled arrow templates
Allows adding products and set theory templates
Is used to insert vector and matrix templates of arbitrary size.

Templates like summation, fences and others automatically adjust the size of all equation elements. Thus, the whole equation is always proportional.
